The team called following reports of a female trapped in water following a canoeing accident near Sedbergh We were stood down just as we were leaving base when were informed that the incident had been dealt with by Cumbria Fire Service and NW Ambulance Service. Heli-Med was also in attendance. As we were closing base down we had a request from the scene to assist in recovery of some canoes. 5 team members were deployed with swift water gear but were not needed on arrival at the scene as the canoes had been retrieved by the owners. We understand that the canoeist was flown to hospitals and was in a serious condition.

Our second early start within 9 days! This time we joined other teams and a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter to assist the Patterdale team with a search for a male who was missing after apparently setting off to walk the "Dodds" to the west of Ullswater. Patterdale had been out in the early hours but they had to retreat due to the extreme weather conditions. There was a lot of water about following prolonged wet weather and it was an extremely windy day searching on the hills (gusts of up to 80mph were recorded in the search area). The search was ended at around 15.30 hrs, unfortunately without success.

We stretchered her down to the waiting ambulance. Great weather in the hills at the moment but it's very slippery in places.
