Callouts 2003

26th January

The Team was called to a 73 year old male found in a confused state at the summit shelter on Hampsfell, near Grange over Sands. He was found to be cold but uninjured and after assessment was walked down by team members.

26th January

While dealing with the previous incident the Team was asked to search for a missing person in Chapel House Wood, assisted by Duddon and Furness Team. The missing male (potential suicide) was not located and the team was stood down by the police later that night.

13th April

The Team were called to assist Langdale and Ambleside Team to stretcher an injured walker off Pavey Ark.

18th April

The team were called to assist Langdale and Ambleside Team in the evacuation of a male from above the Bad Step on Crinkle Crags. The injured man had pulled a loose boulder off and it landed on him, badly injuring his leg.

21st April

The Team again assisted Langdale and Ambleside Team to evacuate a casualty. This time it was a female with serious injuries from an accident in Crinkle Ghyll.

30th May

The Team was called to a 9 year old girl with a serious hand injury on Ill Bell. The girl was evacuated by RAF helicopter.

23rd June

The Team was called to assist the Ambulance Service on a call at Sandside. A 16 year old girl had slipped on rocks at Sandside Quay and fractured her ankle. She was carried by the Team to the Air Ambulance for transfer to hospital.

28th June

The Team was asked to assist Langdale and Ambleside evacuate a 22 year old female casualty with abdominal pains. An incorrect grid reference had been given by the informant that caused a delay in locating the casualty who was found 2.5km further away in the Great Rigg area and evacuated to hospital by RAF helicopter.

29th June

The Team was called to a 54 year old male in Bowderdale who had fallen from his mountain bike and received a severe laceration to his left leg. He was treated at the scene by a Team Doctor and carried by stretcher to the Air Ambulance for evacuation to hospital.

9th July

The Team was called to assist Langdale and Ambleside Team evacuate a 48 year old male suffering from a suspected heart attack at Dove Crag. The casualty was evacuated to hospital by RAF helicopter.

10th July

The Team was called to assist Langdale and Ambleside Team with a casualty on Heron Pike. The 22 year old male had slipped and sustained a fractured ankle and was suffering from a head injury. The casualty was stretchered down the fell and taken to hospital by RAF helicopter.

11th July

Langdale and Ambleside Team were having a busy week and this time they asked the Team to assist with the evacuation of a casualty from Swinscar Pike, Grasmere. The 33 year old male had fallen and sustained shoulder injury.

27th July

While on a training exercise the Team was called to assist Langdale and Ambleside Team to stretcher a casualty from the Stickle Tarn area. The 58 year old female had fallen and sustained an open wound to her left knee.

2nd August

The Team was called to assist Langdale and Ambleside Team to a casualty on Crinkle Crags. The casualty was evacuated by RAF helicopter before the Team arrived on site.

3rd August

The Team was called to evacuate a lady from a footpath by the River Rawthey in Sedbergh. The 54 year old female had a knee injury and was taken to Kendal hospital for treatment.

6th September

The Team was called to assist Langdale and Ambleside Team with a stretcher carry off Helm Crag near Grasmere. A 56 year old male had injured his leg while fell walking.

12th October

The Team was called to White Scar, Whitbarrow where a 71 year old man and his two grandsons, aged 7 and 9, had become crag fast on loose ground. A rope lowering system was set up and all three were lowered to the ground, shaken but uninjured.

2nd November

While attending a Casualty Care course two Kendal Team members assisted on a Langdale and Ambleside call out in bad weather.

11th November

The Team was requested to search the bank of the River Kent and outskirts of Kendal for a missing 30 year old male with known psychiatric problems. The missing person was located by the police and the search called off after the Team had commenced the search.

25th December

Just as most Team members were about to sit down to eat their Christmas dinners the pagers went off! The call was to locate a missing 45 year old male and his 15 year old son in the Barbondale area. The son turned up at the family vehicle while the Team were on route and the father was located a short time later in another valley.
